Cam Skattebo has ambitious goal supported by questionable math

The NFL is in the OTA phase of the offseason as teams prepare for minicamp and training camp. Soon, teams will return to the field for preseason action as the 2026 regular season approaches. The New York Giants are among the teams welcoming back players from injury, including running back Cam Skattebo.

Skattebo is not only a dynamic player for the Giants, but also a big personality. Whenever cameras and microphones surround him, he usually delivers a memorable sound bite. That was the case again on Tuesday when he spoke with New York media.

Skattebo continues to recover from a season-ending injury suffered in 2025, and it remains unclear when he will return to football activities. Still, he made one thing clear: he expects to be ready for Week 1. He also shared an ambitious goal for the upcoming season — though the math behind it did not quite add up.

Harbaugh oversaw Derrick Henry’s dominant 2024 season, during which Henry rushed for nearly 2,000 yards while averaging 5.9 yards per carry. Harbaugh also hired Matt Nagy as the Giants’ offensive coordinator and brought Greg Roman onto the staff.

Roman has helped lead several successful offenses, including Lamar Jackson’s 2019 MVP campaign. He also served as the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers during Colin Kaepernick’s best seasons.

Skattebo could become not only a major offensive weapon for the Giants in 2026, but also a personality the team rallies around. The question now is whether he can turn that confidence into a 2,000-yard season.
