Minor League Recap: Schubart Walks It Off For The Captains

Columbus Clippers 7, Louisville Bats 5

The Clippers wound up winning both games on Wednesday. This one was led by Cooper Ingle going 3-5 with a two RBI double. Juan Brito went 2-4, and George Valera went 1-3 with a walk and a 2 run HR. Angel Genao also went 1-3 with a walk.

Rorik Maltrud had a solid start, allowing three runs in five innings pitched. He struck out three batters and walked one, and his ERA on the season sits at 2.82. Daniel Espino had an awesome scoreless inning of relief where he struck out the side.

Columbus Clippers 2, Louisville Bats 1

This game had a little less action for the Clippers, but they were still able to win. Ralphy Velazquez collected his first AAA hit with a double down the left field line. He is going to be a great hitter for the Guardians for a long time. Cooper Ingle went 1-3 with a walk, Kody Huff went 1-3 with an RBI single.

Kolby Allard got the start for the Clippers, he tossed four scoreless innings and struck out three. Franco Aleman got the win in his one scoreless inning of relief. He still has yet to allow an earned run in AAA this season.

Akron RubberDucks 1, Harrisburg Senators 3

It wasn’t a great day for the Akron offense. Jaison Chourio and Jake Fox went 1-3, and Jose Devers collected two hits. This offense definitely misses having Angel Genao and Ralphy Velazquez, hopefully they will have Aaron Walton soon.

Justin Campbell pitched for the RubberDucks on Wednesday. I think most notably for him is that he threw 72 pitches, which feels like a lot for someone who went 3 years without pitching due to injuries. He didn’t have his best start but he still struck out four batters in four innings while allowing two earned runs. His AA ERA is at 1.69 on the season, he is a prospect to be really excited about.

Lake County Captains 4, Lansing Lugnuts 3

The story of this game was Braylon Doughty’s performance, it was definitely his best start of the season. He went five innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out 8 batters and walking just one. He has somehow gone under the radar a bit but he is having an awesome season as a 20 year old in High-A with an ERA of just 2.89. I believe this is our top pitching prospect by a good margin.

As for the offense, Nolan Schubart went 2-5 with a walk off single. Aaron Walton went 2-4 with an RBI single and a walk, and Maick Collado went 2-4 with an RBI single.

Hill City Howlers 3, Salem RidgeYaks 8

It was the first bad start of Nelson Keljo’s pro career. He allowed four earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched but was still able to strike out 4 batters. His ERA has ballooned up to 2.88 on the season, I think he’ll be fine. Ryan Prager and Keegan Zinn combined for 4 scoreless innings of relief.

The Howlers were held to just 3 hits in this game. Dauri Fernandez and Robert Arias both had a hit and a walk, and Tyler Howard went 1-2 with two walks.
