It took them nearly 50 games, but the Boston Red Sox finally seem headed in the right direction.
After sweeping the Kansas City Royals this week, the Red Sox have won four of their last five games. They’re now 22-27 and just two games out of a playoff spot in the American League, so their postseason hopes are very much alive.
Following Wednesday’s 4-3 win over the Royals, NESN analyst Lucy Burdge made a bold playoff prediction for Boston.

“The Red Sox are going to make the playoffs,” Burdge said on “Boston Has Entered The Chat.” “Deal with it. Just get over it. If you don’t think, too bad. They’re going to make the playoffs. As we get to the end of the season, they will be in the playoffs.”
With Garrett Crochet and Roman Anthony potentially coming back soon, the Red Sox could be poised to take off.
The American League is weak this year, but Boston still faces an uphill battle. The team enters Thursday’s off day with a 35.8 percent chance of making the playoffs according to FanGraphs and a 36.0 percent chance at Baseball-Reference.
There’s still a long way to go, but the Red Sox finally have some momentum and optimism for the first time in a while.
