Dolphins All-Pro addresses uncomfortable contract situation

The Miami Dolphins entered this offseason, their first with their new general manager and new head coach, knowing that there were a few guys on the roster that they wanted to extend.

While they’ve worked out one of those deals, signing running back De’Von Achane to an extension, linebacker Jordyn Brooks is still waiting for his.

The 28-year-old joined the Dolphins in 2024 after four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, and he took his game to the next level in 2025, leading the league in tackles (183) and earning both Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors for the first time.

Despite his strong performance last year, Brooks isn’t sure if a deal gets done between the two sides any time soon.

“Yeah, I mean, I don’t know,” Brooks told reporters this week. “I mean, it can go either way honestly, but for me, I’m just controlling what I can control. Play football. I’m blessed to do it and so I’m going to just keep approaching it that way”

While Brooks watched his teammate get paid before him, he acknowledges that it was the right move.

“Yeah, man, Achane getting his deal, that’s something that needed to happen right away,” Brooks said. “Probably our best player on the team, just his skill set and the way he’s played for us the last two years since I’ve been here, he earned every bit of that. Seeing him get that done, I was excited. Bringing him back and obviously all the guys that we lost, having him back made me feel a lot better about where we’re going in the future.”

Brooks has one year left on the three-year, $26.25 million deal he signed in 2024. He has a cap hit of $10.86 million this year and will earn a $7.82 million base salary and $510,000 in per-game roster bonuses and $50,000 in a workout bonus.

Miami could extend Brooks and create some breathing room in 2026 while keeping one of their core players around for the foreseeable future.
