Enquirer names Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, May 22

In a vote that ended May 22, Cincinnati.com readers selected the 2025-2026 Cincinnati Enquirer/Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through May 17.

Winners can print their certificates from this week starting Monday and other weeks now using this Drop Box link. Send a photo of the winners with their certificates for our photo gallery.

Here are this week’s winners.

Ohio big-school baseball team: Turpin – Turpin went 3-0 with a sweep of Kings and a 7-2 win at Loveland, holding on to the top spot in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference.

Ohio small-school baseball team: Summit Country Day – Summit Country Day outlasted Madeira in extra innings, securing a 7-6 playoff win.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana baseball team: Conner – Conner shut out both Lloyd Memorial and Scott in the regular season, then beat Cooper 7-2 to advance to the 33rd District championship.

Ohio big-school softball team: Walnut Hills – Walnut Hills secured a 12-6 win over Princeton in the first round of the playoffs.

Ohio small-school softball team:Goshen – A 6-0 win against Clermont Northeastern and a 7-1 playoff win against Monroe continued Goshen’s 15-game winning streak.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana softball team: Dayton – Dayton won three games last week, beating Robertson County, Williamstown and Calvary Christian to close the regular season.

Boys spring team: La Salle volleyball – The Lancers won three postseason games, sweeping Thurgood Marshall, beating Badin in four sets and beating Alter in five.

Girls spring team: Mount Notre Dame flag – At the inaugural Ohio High School Athletic Association flag football state tournament, the Cougars finished as runners-up after taking down Madison and Midview.

Ohio big-school baseball: Max Kimble, Milford – The sophomore had a double and three RBIs in a 7-4 win over Harrison.

Ohio small-school baseball: Lucas Reder, Summit Country Day – The junior had three hits and three RBIs, including the walk-off hit in the 11th inning, in a 7-6 win over Madeira at Great American Ball Park.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana big-school baseball: Gabe Goodridge, Boone County – The senior had four hits, including a home run and five RBIs, in an 18-6 win over Dayton.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana small-school baseball: K.J. Nussbaum, Lloyd Memorial – The sophomore pitched a three-inning perfect game in a 15-0 win over Williamstown, striking out seven out of nine batters.

Flag football: Addy Vaughan, Mount Notre Dame – The senior receiver was named to the inaugural OHSAA state all-tournament team after helping the Cougars reach the title game.

Ohio boys lacrosse: Jake Holleran, Turpin – The sophomore goalie recorded nine saves as Turpin defeated Summit Country Day, 10-7, in the playoffs.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys lacrosse: Cole Grimes, Dixie Heights – The senior goaltender made 12 saves in a 9-7 win over Ryle to win the Fifth District championship.

Ohio girls lacrosse: Emerson Werden, Fenwick – The senior scored nine goals over a pair of wins against Alter and Carroll.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls lacrosse:Emily Forbes, Cooper – The junior scored four goals in an 11-9 win over Sayre in the state tournament.

Ohio big-school softball:Caiden Baird, Harrison – She hit a walk-off double in the 10th inning to beat Franklin, capping a 3-for-6 performance where she had three RBIs and scored two runs. She also went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs in a win over Lakota West.

Ohio small-school softball: Karli Campbell, Goshen – She had two doubles, an RBI and scored a run in a win over Clermont Northeastern.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana softball: Savannah Cluxton, Boone County – The eighth-grader went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and caught two runners stealing in a win over Newport Central Catholic.

Boys singles tennis: Tyler Lammers, Summit Country Day – The senior was the Division II sectional winner at Lindner, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 in the finals.

Boys doubles tennis team: Adam Klaus/Jack O’Neil, Wyoming – The seniors went 5-0 in the Division II sectional tournament at Mason.

Northern Kentucky girls singles tennis: Bea Chiessi, Scott – She had a 6-3, 6-0 over a teammate to win the 10th Region tournament on May 11.

Northern Kentucky girls doubles tennis:Gabrielle Browning/Annika Derks, Simon Kenton – The Simon Kenton seniors qualified for the state tournament after beating South Oldham 6-3, 6-2 in the Eighth Region quarterfinals on May 12.

Ohio boys track and field: Trenton McIntosh, Clermont Northeastern – He won two Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference-National individual titles, setting personal bests of 11.26 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 22.94 seconds in the 200-meter dash. He also ran on the winning 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay teams.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys track and field: Dylan Topmiller, Beechwood – He stretched his high jump winning streak to five competitions by winning the Class 1A, Region 4 title with a height of 6 feet, 2 inches.

Ohio girls track and field: Kylie Carp, Mount Notre Dame – The freshman won the Girls Greater Catholic League 200-meter dash title with a personal best of 25.54 seconds, took second place in the 200-meter dash in a personal best of 12.67 seconds, took third place in the 400-meter dash and fourth place in the long jump.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls track and field: Jasmine Cozmanciuc, Villa Madonna – The seventh-grader took second place in the 3,200-meter run at the Class 1A, Region 4 meet with a new personal best of 12:15.54 and took fourth place in the 1,600-meter run.

Ohio boys volleyball: Nolan Stacey, McNicholas – The freshman had 17 kills and three blocks as McNicholas swept Chaminade Julienne on May 14.

The Enquirer will no longer mail certificates to schools after getting feedback that families weren’t receiving them. Alex Harrison will make digital copies of all certificates available to families by 8 a.m. the Monday after the Friday win. Families will access the PDFs through this public Dropbox link.
