Waukee Northwest girls set points record at Iowa state track meet

There’s a new all-time greatest girls team effort at the Iowa high school track and field meet.

The Waukee Northwest girls broke the all-time points record on May 25, to almost certainly repeat as Class 4A team champions over the three-day event in Des Moines. The previous record of 126 points was set by Davenport Assumption in 2016. The Wolves’ best previous effort came last season, with 101.5 points to win the Class 4A team title.

Pushing Waukee Northwest over the top were freshman Emmy Stubbendeck (3rd, 4:32.62) and sophomore Ella Jones (6th, 4:36.12), whose efforts in the 1500 helped the Wolves eclipse 126 points at 130.5.

Leading the way for the whole meet for Waukee Northwest was a pair of state titles from Katie Willits in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, as well as her leg in the all-time Iowa record in the shuttle hurdle relay. The Wolves also won state titles in the 4×200 and 4×800 relays. At the time of publishing, Waukee Northwest has scored team points in each event it competed in.
