Vincent Kompany: “Sometimes you just have to stand there and admire this team!”

Vincent Kompany expressed his pride after FC Bayern Munich defeated Stuttgart 3-0 in Saturday’s DFB-Pokal final, securing another major trophy in the Belgian coach’s first season in charge.

After a difficult opening half, Bayern improved significantly after the break and eventually pulled away thanks to a dominant second-half display.

“I’m happy for the players and simply proud. We stayed calm after the first half and improved our performance. The way the boys did that today was superb. Sometimes as a coach of this team, you just stand there and admire them.”

Kompany revealed his half-time message focused on patience and composure rather than major tactical changes.

“At half-time, I only told the players that they had to stay calm — their chances would come.”

The Bayern coach also stressed the importance of building a winning mentality through experiences like Saturday’s final victory.

“Now we’ve celebrated another success and we’ll take these feelings and experiences with us into future finals, which hopefully will come again very soon.”

Despite Bayern’s dominant campaign, Kompany made clear that maintaining hunger and standards remains his biggest task as head coach.

“I’m here to remind my players that they must stay hungry. If someone from our team wins the World Cup now, then three days later he’ll be back with us — and everything starts again from zero. That’s how it works here. That’s how we stay successful.”
