BASEBALL
Concord 3, Lakeland 0
Myles Jones held an experienced Lakeland team to just three hits in a complete-game shut out performance for the righty. Concord beat the Lakers 3-0 in LaGrange as Jordan Flores and Mark Herman both tallied two hits as Flores, Jones and Alex Kridler drove in runs for the Minutemen. Concord is now 17-7.
Bremen 6, Fairfield 2
A four-run frame in the fifth inning broke up a 2-2 tie in Fairfield’s home loss to Bremen Saturday. The Falcons recorded just two hits as Logan Miller and Grady Chupp tallied the base hits and Lucas Miller drove in the Falcons’ lone earned run. Fairfield is now 11-15.
Lake Central 10, Goshen 4
Goshen lost its regular season finale on Saturday with a home loss to Lake Central. The visitors took a 6-2 lead in the third off Goshen starter Bray Hoag. Lake Central broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the third inning and extended the lead to 8-4 in the fifth frame. Jensen Meikle and Jaxon Miller tallied two hits each for Goshen. The RedHawks head into the postseason with a 19-6 mark on the year.
Niles 14, Northridge 2 (5 inn.) – State Line Showdown
Edwardsburg 5, Northridge 1 – State Line Showdown
Northridge was swept in both of its games in Nappanee at the State Line Showdown. The Raiders began the day with a five-inning showing against Niles (Mich.). The Vikings scored 11 runs in the first two frames with Aveary Johnson recording the Raiders’ lone RBI of the game.
In the second game, Northridge fell to Edwardsburg (Mich.). The Eddies began the game with a two-run first inning and took a 5-0 lead before Northridge avoided the shutout with a run in the bottom of the fifth. In the two games, Northridge’s Caleb Irwin and Hayden Gorball led the team in hits with two each. Northridge is now 12-14 after losing its fourth-straight contest.
Edwardsburg 7, NorthWood 5 – State Line Showdown
Niles 6, NorthWood 2 – State Line Showdown
NorthWood was swept at home in its two games against competition from the northern border. The Panthers lost a late lead against Edwardsburg in the first game before falling behind to Niles in a 6-2 loss. Individual statistics were not available by publication. NorthWood is now 14-12-1.
SOFTBALL
FW Carroll 12, Northridge 5
Northridge’s 5-3 lead after three innings didn’t hold up against Fort Wayne Carroll in a 12-5 loss in Middlebury Saturday. The Raiders and Chargers combined for 11 errors, but the visitors out-hit Northridge 14-5. Tabby Lucas homered and drove in two runs for Northridge while Rachel Humbarger, Mia Branam and Willow Staley all collected hits. Northridge is now 12-10 as they await the start of sectionals next week.
East Noble 15, Westview 3 (Game 1)
East Noble 11, Westview 6 (Game 2)
Westview’s slide extended with a doubleheader loss to East Noble on Saturday. The Warriors led 3-0 in the first game before the Knights took advantage on the basepath and of Westview’s five errors. In the second game, another Westview lead didn’t hold after a 2-0 start. Myra Miller was 3-of-4 at the plate and drove in two runs in the second game while Breanna Garrett was 2-of-3 in the first game and drove in three runners. Westview enters the postseason after a 10-9 regular season.
BOYS GOLF
NLC Meet (Pretty Lake GC)
Plymouth (295), Warsaw (304), Northridge (318), Wawasee (323), NorthWood (332), Mishawaka (346), Concord (350), Goshen (392)
Plymouth finished atop the Northern Lakes Conference Meet standings at its home course Saturday afternoon at Pretty Lake GC. The Pilgrims led the field with the top three scores and all four scorers placed inside the top-10. Northridge finished second and saw Cooper Kropf and Kaden Miller each place in the top-12 with a 76 and 78, respectively. Wawasee was just behind in fourth and its top-12 placers were Carson Scherer with a 77 and Hudson Cripe with a 78. NorthWood’s top golfer was Caleb Vincent (79), Concord’s highest placer was Nathan Potter (81) and Goshen’s top score was Isaac Pfahler (90).
GIRLS TENNIS
Postponed: Fairfield vs. Bremen (Sectional 63 Championship)
Due to consistent misting in Nappanee, the Sectional 63 Championship was unable to be held Saturday morning. Fairfield will face Bremen for the sectional title on Monday at NorthWood with a start time planned for 4 p.m.
