Liverpool are gearing up for big changes across the midfield this summer.
Arne Slot has been relying on the same cast of characters in midfield for the last couple of seasons and is getting diminishing returns from some of them.
Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch have been a long way beneath their Premier League title-winning form. And factor in some contract uncertainty over Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo and you can see why changes might be on the cards.
Lamine Camara, Eduardo Camavinga and Adam Wharton are some of the names reportedly in the frame for an Anfield arrival as Arne Slot and Richard Hughes run the rule over some contenders to come in.
That would leave certain Liverpool players in danger of slipping out of the picture and right now it’s shaping up that Curtis Jones could be leaving.
Inter Milan want deal for Jones
The homegrown midfielder is out of contract in 2027 and talks have been “shelved” over a new deal according to a report in TEAMtalk.
This summer will represent Liverpool’s final chance to extract a decent transfer fee for the 25-year-old – who has been valued in some reports at £35m.
Inter Milan came forward with their interest in January but Liverpool opted against doing a deal with the Italian champions.
Reports in Italy suggest that Inter will be back this summer and the TEAMtalk report adds that Jones is now seriously considering a move away.
Jones okays Inter move
“The Liverpool midfielder is increasingly open to a move to Italy as uncertainty continues to grow surrounding his long-term future at Anfield,” the report reads.
“Discussions over an extension have currently been shelved while both player and club reassess their respective positions.”
Liverpool declined a deal to sell Jones in January over a lack of options. And while the Milan giants won’t be overpaying for Jones head coach Cristian Chivu has reportedly earmarked the schemer as a key summer arrival.
“They have now returned in an attempt to accelerate talks over a possible summer move,” the report reads.
“Jones himself is highly intrigued by the prospect of playing in Serie A and would be open to testing himself in Italy should a suitable agreement be reached.”
Jones has been unable to nail down a regular starting berth in midfield this season – with Arne Slot preferring other players in the role.
The Scouser has got into the XI in recent weeks – albeit at right-back – but it looks as though he will need to move elsewhere to get the first-team football in midfield he believes he deserves.
