James Harden’s girlfriend Paije Speights was visibly upset about the poor officiating during the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3, and not without reason.
There were a few questionable calls that likely caught her attention. One moment during the second quarter, with just one second left before halftime, had Harden absolutely livid.
The play in question occurred when Harden was fouled by Josh Hart on a three-pointer that was not called by the officials. On replay, it was clear that Hart hit Harden’s elbow during the shooting motion.
Harden was seen arguing his case with the referees, but to no avail.
Harden’s girlfriend, Speights, who was courtside, expressed her frustration with the officiating after the game, saying on Instagram:
“These refs are cheating so bad, man. My blood boiling.”
Down 2-0 in their playoff series against the New York Knicks, the Cavaliers desperately needed a win. After losing the first two games 115-103 and 109-93 on the road, James Harden and his team were hoping to turn over a new leaf at home, but it didn’t happen.
They fell 121-108 to the Knicks on Saturday night and now trail the Eastern Conference Finals best-of-seven series three games to none.
James Harden struggles continue in Game 3 loss
It’s no secret that Harden has not gotten out of the blocks fast in the series, as he has yet to score 20+ points.
Game 3 was no exception. He was bogged down early and failed to build much momentum. After going without a single turnover in Game 2, he found himself back in trouble again, recording six turnovers. He finished the game with 18 points along with five rebounds and five assists. He shot 8-for-15 from the field and made only one of seven three-pointers.
It was another ugly game for Harden, who struggled early and never managed to get into a rhythm. As they are on the brink of getting swept, Harden and the Cavaliers need to find a new game plan. The offense has been inconsistent and hasn’t generated nearly enough. While it can be tough to make a comeback at this stage, it may be the only option left with their season now on the line.
