Castilla graduate Nico Paz was named the best midfielder in Serie A for the 205-26 season. The 21-year-old Argentine midfielder helped Como qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.
He scored 13 goals and provided eight assists in Serie A and the Italian Cup under Cesc Fabregas. Paz had a meteoric rise this season and could return home to Madrid in 2026-27. An additional year in Italy is not ruled out either, but his buy-back clause has a deadline tied to it – and Real Madrid would rather capitalise on it now. Incoming manager Jose Mourinho will surely have a say on Nico’s future.
He did not play in Como’s final game of the season against Cremonese due to caution from an injury. Nico Paz is certain to have a place in Argentina’s 26-man World Cup squad after a stellar season. With consultation with Argentina’s doctors, it was decided that he shouldn’t play on Matchday 38. Lionel Scaloni is reported to announce the squad sometime this week.
