Lionel Messi suffered an injury scare ahead of the World Cup as he left Inter Miami’s 6-4 win over Philadelphia Union with an apparent hamstring injury.
Having set up two of Miami’s four first-half goals, Messi reached for his leg in the 73rd minute after taking a free-kick.
He was replaced by Matteo Silvetti and headed straight down the tunnel without assistance from medical staff.
Messi, who has appeared in five World Cups, has said he would only play in the tournament if fully healthy.
Argentina start the defence of their World Cup crown against Algeria in just over three weeks on June 16.
The two teams had set a new MLS record as they shared eight goals in the first half.
Milan Iloski scored twice in the opening nine minutes, the second from a penalty, to put Philadelphia 2-0 before Messi set up German Berterame to pull one back.
Bruno Damiani added a third for the visitors but Luis Suarez scored twice, either side of a second Berterame goal created by Messi, to put Miami in front.
There was still time for Philadelphia to equalise before the break, Iloski completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot seven minutes into stoppage time.
Amid torrential rain in the second half, Suarez completed his own hat-trick before Rodrigo De Paul sealed Miami’s victory with a stoppage-time goal.
