Phallon Tullis-Joyce: Man United women star collects impressive reward

Manchester United Women’s season was bittersweet.

Story of the season

It is not finished yet, as United will play in the World Sevens tournament at Brentford this Thursday.

Marc Skinner’s side made history by reaching the final of the League Cup and the quarter-finals of their inaugural Champions League campaign.

Nonetheless, they had a poor last two months of the season and dropped to fourth in the league, meaning they will have to do without European football next season.

Despite the disappointment, they have had many fine performers this season, and as usual, goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has been one of them.

The American keeper was recently named United’s PFA Community Champion of the Year alongside the men’s team’s keeper, Senne Lammens.

On-field recognition

Despite going out in the last eight, Tullis-Joyce was still able to be the joint winner of the Champions League Golden Glove.

She has also shared the honour with Barcelona’s Cata Coll, who kept a clean sheet in the Champions League final victory over Lyon.

Tullis-Joyce kept an impressive five clean sheets in her eight matches in the Champions League.

These clean sheets included matches against Vålerenga, Atletico Madrid and Juventus in the group stage.

Moreover, she also kept two clean sheets in both legs of the last-16 victory over Atlético Madrid.

The American keeper will not be able to play in Europe next season, but will hope her fine form between the sticks will allow the Red Devils to make a charge for Champions League football so she can play at the highest level again.
