VOTE for HSS North Jersey Baseball Player of the Week for May 17-23

After an exciting finish to the high school baseball regular season, it’s time to look back on the best performances.

Read about the players who stood out last week and let us know who you think should be the HSS North Jersey Baseball Player of the Week in the poll at the bottom of this page.

Voting closes at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 28.

Jason Amalbert, DePaul

Amalbert spearheaded the Spartans (19-5) to a 2-0 week highlighted by capturing the Passaic County title with an 11-1 victory over defending champion Passaic Tech. The senior hit .600 (3 for 5), with one walk, three steals, four runs and two RBIs.

Vin Cerritelli, Westwood

Cerritelli guided the Cardinals (20-6) to a 3-0 week, including a pair of one-run wins. The freshman hit .667 (6 for 9), featuring a homer, with one walk, two hit by pitches, five runs and five RBIs. In five innings, he allowed one earned run and struck out five.

Alex D’Angelo, Ridgewood

D’Angelo became the program’s career hits leader during a 1-1 week for the Maroons (19-7). The senior hit .667 (4 for 6), with two runs and six RBIs. His two-run, walk-off homer in a 3-2 win over Indian Hills on May 22 gave him a school-record 118 career hits.

Tyler Herman, Lyndhurst

Herman led the Golden Bears (15-12) to a 2-0 week to guarantee a third consecutive winning season. In a nine-inning, 3-2 win over Leonia, the senior allowed no earned runs over six innings and struck out nine. He batted .429 (3 for 7), with two RBIs.

Hunter Marcus, Midland Park

Marcus helped the Panthers (17-9) to a 3-0 week to stretch their winning streak to six games. Over two appearances and 7 2/3 innings, the freshman did not allow an earned run and struck out five. He hit .375 (3 for 8), with one walk, two runs and five RBIs.

Ryan McCabe, St. Joseph

McCabe drove the Green Knights (19-7) to a 2-0 week and eight victories in their last nine games. The senior batted .625 (5 for 8), including a double and triple, to keep his batting average above .500. He had four runs and five RBIs.

Wyatt Morrissey, Glen Rock

Morrissey paced the Panthers (19-5) to a 2-0 week to extend their winning streak to six games. The junior batted .667 (4 for 6), with a walk, two steals, five runs and three RBIs. He threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, one walk, and struck out one.

Zander Velez, Bergenfield

Velez drove the Bears (16-10) to a 2-0 week capped by winning the Bergen Invitational Tournament title. The senior hit .500 (3 for 6), including a homer, one walk, two steals, one run and three RBIs. He had the game-winning hit in the 6-5 title win over Fair Lawn.
