Kyle Busch‘s widow, Samantha Busch, broke down in tears while hugging their son at a NASCAR tribute days after the racing legend’s death at 41.

On May 21, Kyle died after a battle with pneumonia that progressed into sepsis. He left behind a wife and two children, a son, Brexton, 11, and a daughter, Lennix, 4.

Fast-forward to three days later, on Sunday, May 24, and NASCAR shared a tribute to Kyle during pre-race ceremonies ahead of the Coca-Cola 600. At Charlotte Motor Speedway, NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell gave a speech with Samantha and her children, Kyle’s parents, Tom and Gaye, and his brother, Kurt Busch, all in attendance.

“I think that we can all agree that this was Kyle Busch’s home — every race track was Kyle Busch’s home,” O’Donnell said. “He competed like he had something to prove every single race when in reality, he had already proven everything.”

The NASCAR CEO continued, “What I think we’ll miss most isn’t the wins. It’s the guy who quietly wanted to help a teammate or give some advice. It was the husband, the father, or the guy who quietly did things for others when no one was watching.”

As O’Donnell turned to Kyle’s widow and said, “Samantha, I want you to know that this sport stands with you, and that you and your children are NASCAR family forever,” she broke down in sobs while clinging to Brexton as the crowd erupted in supportive cheers and applause.

He continued, “And Brexton and Lennix, your dad loved you with all his heart. Everyone gathered here, everyone behind you, everyone watching on TV, and all those people up in that grandstand are your family. And we’ve got you.”

In the comments of a video of the tribute NASCAR shared via X, fans flooded the Busch family with prayers. One X user wrote, “Prayers for his family and much respect for the entire NASCAR family!”

Another shared, “This was heart-wrenching to watch… may he rest in peace.”

Someone else pointed out, “The amount of strength it took for them to be at the track makes me cry.”

A different fan commented, “Brexton had to be the strongest 11-year-old. My heart is shattered, but I’m so glad to see Samatha and the family at the track surrounded by love, his spirit, and everyone who loves them more than they realize. Praying hard for everyone.”

Meanwhile, yet another fan wrote, “Many thoughts and prayers of comfort and peace for the Busch family, friends, and racers!!”
