What are Liverpool doing? Ridiculous asking price set to sell first-team star

Liverpool are gearing up to sell a first-team star. The price they’ve set is absolutely ridiculous.

It’s a summer of farewells at Anfield. Liverpool said goodbye to two legends on Sunday as Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson played their final games but we don’t expect things to stop there.

Alisson Becker, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez are all heavily linked with moves away. Konate, in particular, looks near-certain to leave as his contract expires shortly.

And then there’s Curtis Jones. Jones, someone many expected to remain at Liverpool for life, nearly left the club in January as Inter tried to snap him up.

As we head into the summer transfer window, a transfer looks near-certain. The Scouser has one year left on his deal, is completely out of favour as a midfielder, and the club is gearing up to sell.

The Times reports that Liverpool would accept £35m for Jones this summer. That, quite honestly, is an absolutely ridiculous price for a midfielder who has consistently delivered at the top level.

Compare that to the £115m asking price that Nottingham Forest have put on Elliot Anderson (the Telegraph). The fact that Liverpool would rather sell on the cheap than get Jones a new contract is simply incredible and it now appears they’ll lose a player for a fraction of his real-world value.

But this is far from the first time. Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah and Tyler Morton all left for relatively small fees in 2025. One year on, the trio are worth far, far more than what they went for.

Liverpool are preparing to repeat that with Jones. We’re not sure when this happened, but the club has become rotten at selling homegrown talents – but this next one might be the worst yet.

Curtis Jones: Situation Summary

Liverpool Campaign Finale and Stats

As of 25 May 2026, Curtis Jones has concluded his domestic campaign under Arne Slot on a high note. The 25-year-old midfielder started and played the full 90 minutes in yesterday’s final Premier League fixture, scoring a 58th-minute opener from a Mohamed Salah cross in a 1–1 draw against Brentford at Anfield. The result successfully confirmed a top-five finish and Champions League qualification for Liverpool.

Transfer Speculation and Friction

Despite his final-day goal, Jones’ long-term future at Anfield remains highly uncertain as he enters the final year of his contract. Following reports that he interacted supportively with Salah’s social media outburst against Slot, trust has deteriorated. Fabrizio Romano confirmed Inter Milan are actively pursuing the midfielder, who collapsed a move to San Siro in January. Italian reports indicate Jones has prioritised joining the Serie A champions over interest from Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
