Italy’s June 2026 squad: 19 debutants, 11 without Serie A experience

Silvio Baldini’s Italy squad for June friendlies will be filled with debutants at a senior level, 19 out of 24, and almost half of the players have never played a Serie A game.

Italy are sadly preparing for June friendly games against Luxembourg and Greece after missing out on World Cup qualification.

Caretaker coach Silvio Baldini named his 24-man squad list on Monday, only including one established player, captain Gianluigi Donnarumma and a few emerging young talents who already have international experience, such as Marco Palestra and Francesco Pio Esposito.

Donnarumma, Palestra and Esposito are also among the 13 players in the Italy squad to have played at least one game in Serie A.

The others are Honest Ahanor, Davide Bartesaghi, Pietro Comuzzo, Luca Lipani, Cher Ndour, Niccolò Pisilli, Lorenzo Venturino, Francesco Camarda, Jeff Ekhator, and Seydou Fini.

There are three players from Borussia Dortmund: Filippo Mane, Luca Reggiani and Samuele Inacio. They might not have Serie A experience, but they’ve all made their Bundesliga debut this season. Reggiani and Inacio have also scored their first goal in the Bundesliga this term.

Of the 24 players in the Azzurri squad, 19 have been called up for the first time at a senior level, and the team’s average age is 20 years and 6 months. Among them, only four have already made at least one appearance with La Nazionale at a senior level: Donnarumma, Palestra, Pisilli and Esposito.

Italy will visit Luxembourg on Wednesday, June 3 and then travel to Greece for the final game of the season on Sunday, June 7.
