One particular Wembanyama rookie card reportedly sold for an astounding $5.11 million Tuesday, per the Collectibles Guru.
That card, a Prizm Black 1/1 Wembanyama rookie card, fetched the fourth-highest publicly known price for an NBA card ever.

The actual art on the card isn’t all that exciting, with Wembanyama dribbling against a black backdrop. But art isn’t the reason the card fetched an unbelievable amount. Wembanyama’s play is to blame for the surge in cost.
While Wembanyama showed plenty of skill during his first two years in the NBA, he’s taken his game to another level in Year 3. Wembanyama averaged a career-high 25 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, turning himself into a legitimate MVP candidate for the first time in his career. While he didn’t win that award, he did walk away from the season with the defensive player of the year award.
He’s been just about as good in the playoffs. Wembanyama is averaging 23.1 points and 11.4 rebounds in 14 games. Thanks to his excellence, the Spurs find themselves just two games away from an appearance in the NBA Finals. In order to get there, the team needs to beat the defending-champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
If Wembanyama can make that happen, the cost of his rare rookie cards could surge once again. While $5.11 million is an astronomical price to pay, whoever purchased this particular Wembanyama card likely expects its cost to rise even further as the star center pushes the Spurs closer to a championship.
