Vote for the Boys Athlete of the Week for May 18-25

The winner of last week’s Boys Athlete of the Week poll was GNB Voc-Tech’s John Santana. He had more than 3,000 votes (60%) to receive the honor.  

In three games, Santana had a combined 40 saves. 

Previous winners were Fairhaven’s Gavin Herman, Old Colony’s Rowan Caulkins, New Bedford’s Jonah Wahnon, Old Rochester’s Malik Washburn and Chase DeMello and Wareham’s Tomas doCanto.

Each week during the regular season, we will highlight the top performances. 

Here’s your chance to vote for the top high school boys athlete performance from the past week.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Chace Garcia, GNB Voc-Tech

Against Barnstable, Garcia had 27 assists and 10 digs. He also had 12 assists and 6 digs against BC High. 

Jael Maldonado, GNB Voc-Tech

Maldonado had a career-high 13 kills and 14 digs in a win over Barnstable. He also had 9 kills and 8 digs against BC High. 

Evan Monteiro, GNB Voc-Tech

Monteiro had 11 kills and 13 digs in a win against Barnstable.

Gabe Vieria, GNB Voc-Tech

Against Barnstable, Vieria had a career-high 25 digs. He also had 15 digs against BC High. 

Gabdiel Arroyo, New Bedford

Arroyo had a team-high 12 kills in a win over Hingham. 

Jonah Wahnon, New Bedford

In three matches, Wahnon had a combined 45 assists. 

BOYS TRACK

Henry Berry, Old Rochester

In addition to winning the long jump against Somerset Berkley, Berry took second in the long jump and fifth in the 200 at the South Coast Conference championship meet. 

Noah Thorell, Old Rochester

Not only did Thorell win the 400 against Somerset Berkley, he placed second in the 400 and fourth in the high jump at the South Coast Conference championship meet. 

Malik Washburn, Old Rochester

Washburn won the 110 hurdles and set a school and meet record with a time of 14.27 at the South Shore Twilight Invitational. He also won the 110 hurdles and triple jump at the South Coast Conference championship meet and took first in the 110 hurdles, triple jump and high jump in a win over Somerset Berkley. 

Ty-Rell Pires, Wareham

Pires won the shot put, took fourth in the discus and sixth in the javelin at the Mayflower Athletic Conference championship meet. 

Ryland Potter, Wareham

At the Mayflower Athletic Conference championship meet, Potter placed second in the 110 hurdles and third in the high jump. 

BOYS LACROSSE

Nick Barriga, Apponequet

In a win over Dighton-Rehoboth, Barriga had 4 goals and 1 assist.

Colin McKay, Apponequet

McKay had 3 goals and 3 assists against Dighton-Rehoboth. 

Brady Ellsworth, Bishop Stang

In a win over Old Rochester, Ellsworth had 4 goals and 1 assist. 

Jack Ellsworth, Bishop Stang

Ellsworth had a combined 6 goals and 1 assist in two games. 

Andrew Lally, Bishop Stang

In two games, Lally had a combined 6 goals and 9 assists.

Will Sanders, Bishop Stang

Sanders had a combined 27 saves and 1 assist in a pair of games. 

Conner Araujo, GNB Voc-Tech

In two games, Araujo had a combined 2 assists and 10 goals to set the school’s single-season record for goals with 68. 

Carter Lister, GNB Voc-Tech

Lister had a combined 6 goals and 2 assists in two games.

Nate Tobin, Old Colony

With 18 saves against Tri-County, Tobin surpassed 400 for his career. 

BOYS TENNIS

Tyler DaSilva, Dartmouth

DaSilva won his first singles match against Durfee.

Alex Hu, Fairhaven

Hu won his first singles match against Somerset Berkley.

Caden Gonsalves, Old Rochester

Gonsalves won his third singles match against Fairhaven. 

Subhav Parajuli, Old Rochester

Parajuli won his first singles match against Fairhaven.

Tomas doCanto, Wareham

doCanto won his second singles match against Middleboro.

SAILING

Sam Sperry, Dartmouth

Sperry won 8 out of 9 of his races in A Division as Dartmouth captured first in the Cape & Islands League Championship over 13 other schools.
