According to a report from David Ornstein of The Athletic (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), FC Barcelona has made a shocking bid to Newcastle United for attacker Anthony Gordon.

Bayern Munich had been considered to be the leader in the clubhouse before today, but FC Barcelona has stormed ahead and could be close to getting a deal done for the England international:

Barcelona have made an offer of an initial €80million plus add-ons for Anthony Gordon. Talks between the clubs continue, while Bayern also retain interest in the 25-year-old.

The feeling from around Newcastle is Bayern were leading the race to sign Gordon, but the German club appeared unwilling to pay €80m and have been considering other options in that position.

Bayern Munich was rumored to not want to go above €70 million for Gordon, while Newcastle United was reportedly seeking €90 million for the attacker. Now, it seems like Barca has made the first strike at really trying to secure a deal at least somewhat close to what Newcastle was seeking.
