The Toronto Blue Jays are bringing Charles McAdoo to the major leagues.

The promotion, which will set up McAdoo’s MLB debut, was reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan on Wednesday night.

The roster move doesn’t come without a major question, though. The Blue Jays will also have to remove someone from their active roster and their 40-man roster to make room for McAdoo.

It’s not yet clear who that will be.

Lenyn Sosa has the most positional overlap with McAdoo and has struggled since his trade acquisition from the Chicago White Sox. He also doesn’t have any options, though, and would have to pass through waivers (where he’d likely be claimed) to remove him from the 40-man roster.

Nathan Lukes does still have options remaining, but he plays the outfield and doesn’t overlap positionally with the infielder McAdoo.

Toronto likely already knows what move it’s making but hasn’t officially made it ahead of Thursday’s series opener in Baltimore.

It’s exciting news for McAdoo regardless. He was a 13th-round pick by the Pirates in 2023, then was traded to the Blue Jays in 2024 in the Isiah Kiner-Falefa deal.

McAdoo played the 2025 campaign entirely at Double-A New Hampshire, hitting 16 home runs and stealing 34 bases.

At Triple-A Buffalo this season, McAdoo was hitting .250 with an .812 OPS and eight home runs. He is walking at a great rate and striking out less than in the past.

He definitely has impressive tools, and he can play first base and third base (while recently beginning to learn second base).

Clearly, the Blue Jays are hoping McAdoo provides a spark to a lineup that desperately needs one.
