New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said he is communicating with wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, who isn’t at OTAs.
Boutte is entering his contract year and didn’t attend OTAs as his name has come up in trade rumors in a potential trade for A.J. Brown. However, he isn’t attending OTAs but Vrabel said he’s still talking to him and making sure he’s putting in work.
“We’re onto really just the preseason,” Vrabel said on Wednesday. “That’s what we have to look at it as. I have a great amount of respect for Kayshon, and watching him mature and grow through the entire time that we spent together, that’s a credit to Kayshon, that’s a credit to Todd Downing.
“And just the communication is, “Hey, how are you doing? One, you’re working hard?” And he said, “Yeah, I like where I’m working out at.” “Okay. We’ll be here ready to coach you when you’re here.” That’s been very positive, and I would imagine that he would pick up where he left off and grow on the season that he had last year.”
New England selected Boutte in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft and has been a solid contributor for the Patriots offense for the past two years. He recorded 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns last season.
Yet, despite being an impact receiver, Boutte appears to be frustrated with his role with the team as he’s skipping OTAs.
