Iowa football roster: OL granted sixth year of eligibility

Iowa football got great news on Friday afternoon.

Veteran offensive lineman Michael Myslinski has been approved for a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA, per the Des Moines Register’s Chad Leistikow. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound lineman out of Jacksonville, Fla., had applied for a medical hardship waiver.

While it was an expected formality, it’s still fantastic news to see finalized for Iowa offensive line coach George Barnett, for Hawkeye offensive coordinator Tim Lester and, of course, for Myslinski.

Myslinski took to social media to share the good news.

Myslinski made his collegiate debut in his first possible career game, playing against Indiana to open up the 2021 Iowa football season. But, a knee injury as a freshman limited him to that lone game.

Then, injuries plagued Myslinski over the next three seasons as well. The Bishop Kenny product played in one game in 2022, zero in 2023 and four games in 2024.

Last season, Myslinski was finally healthy and earned his place as a second-teamer on the Hawkeyes’ offensive depth chart. Myslinski made the most of his clean bill of health, playing in eight games and earning the team’s Comeback Player of the Year Award.

When starting right guard Kade Pieper was injured during Iowa’s 26-21 loss at USC, Myslinski was the man that filled in. Per Pro Football Focus, Myslinski garnered 57 offensive snaps last season, including 14 in that contest at USC.

With Beau Stephens and Logan Jones having moved on, Myslinski is in the mix to start at either center or guard in 2026.

“Honestly, this is the best I’ve felt my whole career,” Myslinski told reporters after Iowa’s open spring practice. “It’s been a healthy two years pretty much.”
