The Boston Celtics are the second most likely team to land all-time great Milwaukee Bucks power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, according to Vegas odds.
NBA fans know that Antetokounmpo and the Bucks are involved in hypothetical trade discussions nearly every offseason. The discussions usually result in the superstar saying that Wisconsin is his home, then leading the team to a first-round playoff exit (as was the case in 2023, 2024 and 2025).
However, this time feels different. The Bucks have failed to make any noise in the postseason since winning their NBA Title in 2021. It has been one abject failure after another. It feels like this time, it really is time to shake things up.
Award-winning writer Gery Woelfel reported on X that there is “zero chance” that Antetokounmpo will return to the Bucks next season.
“You never say never when it comes to the zany world of professional sports. Things can change in a heartbeat. But as of this tweet, there’s virtually zero chance of Antetokounmpo remaining with the Bucks,” Woelfel wrote. “I’m hearing a G.A. trade will likely include multiple teams and that it’ll probably go down in the days leading up to the draft, which commences June 23.”
I’ve been thinking about this hypothetical deal a lot lately, and I’m ready to go public with my official stance: if the Celtics are able to pair up Jayson Tatum and Giannis Antetokounmpo, they will win multiple championships.
In the playoffs this year, the Celtics learned that you cannot always rely strictly on perimeter scoring. They haven’t had a real post threat in ages.
Keeping knock-down shooters like DerrickWhite, Tatum and Payton Pritchard, and adding in a black hole piece like Antetokounmpo that can start the offense in the low post will revolutionize Joe Mazzulla’s offense.
It’s still a hypothetical, but hypothetically, Tatum and Antetokounmpo are hanging multiple banners in TD Garden.
