The United States Men’s National Team have a captain. Today, during a press conference, USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino named Tim Ream as the captain for the team for the 2026 World Cup.

“Tim was my first captain,” Pochettino said. “I’m so grateful he’s with us, he’s a great captain not only on the field and, maybe more importantly, off the field. He has the experience and capacity to be the positive leader we want.”

The Charlotte FC centerback has experience as captain with the national team, as he has worn the armband for most matches he has played during Pochettino’s tenure, including for his first match as head coach. Ream now will officially lead the team as captain during the World Cup.

There will be other players who will be counted upon to provide leadership on the field. Tyler Adams captained the team during the 2022 World Cup, and Christian Pulisic, Chris Richards, Weston McKennie, and Miles Robinson also have worn the armband for matches. However, whether he’s on the field or not, Ream will be the guy to lead the team in this World Cup.
