Coastal Carolina was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament on May 30 and Chanticleers coach Kevin Schnall was asked about the South Carolina baseball coaching job again.
“I’ve got a five-year contract at Coastal. I’m the head baseball coach at Coastal Carolina,” Schnall said May 30. “I can’t stress it enough.”
With the season over, there will be a lot more noise surrounding Coastal Head Coach Kevin Schnall & the South Carolina job.

Schnall said he understands why his name is mentioned for the job vacancy, citing the success he has had at Coastal Carolina including a runner-up finish in the national championship in 2025.
“As long as we continue to be successful, people are going to continue to call Coastal Carolina to gauge interest in us in their jobs,” Schnall said. “I don’t blame them. I would too.”
South Carolina is hiring a new coach after Paul Mainieri agreed to leave on April 22 and interim coach Monte Lee was fired after the season ended.
Schnall, who just finished his second season as Coastal Carolina’s coach, is a coveted candidate. He has a 93-36 record.
Before the tournament, he said he has not spoken to anyone at South Carolina regarding the job but added his agent talked to a South Carolina search firm and “has got very little information.”
Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball reported May 29 that another candidate for the South Carolina job is West Virginia coach Steve Sabins.
