Liverpool are going to have an entirely new-look team by the start of the 2026-27 season.
Most people thought it would just be the players changing but now that Arne Slot has been relieved of his duties, the Reds’ fanbase can actually start to look forward to their upcoming campaign.
It was clear that things were coming to an end between Liverpool and Slot as, no matter what the Dutchman tried to do, nothing seemed to work.
Whether it was starting five defenders or playing with two strikers, the Dutchman just couldn’t get the best out of his team.
So, now that he’s left, change is already afoot and, with the amount of players they’ve already been linked to, it’s clear to see why some of the Reds’ first-team squad are already rumoured to be on their way out.
Fenerbahce want to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer
Liverpool’s goalkeeper for the 2026-27 season has been regularly brought up over the last few months.
Alisson’s future has been under a magnifying glass with Juventus interested in bringing the 33-year-old back to Italy.
However, before Slot was sent packing, a move for the Brazilian was ruled out with the Dutchman believing that he’d already lost enough experience with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson exiting.
But, now he’s no longer at the helm, there’s no knowing what could happen with Turkish outlet Fanatik even claiming that Fenerbahce now want to sign Alisson’s understudy, Giorgi Mamardashvili.
“Safi and his team have begun negotiations for Liverpool’s Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili,” they wrote.
“With talk of potential changes to Fenerbahçe’s current goalkeeper rotation, it’s stated that the club aims to strengthen its goalkeeping position with a top-tier player.
“In this context, it has been claimed that contact has been made with the English team regarding Mamardashvili, who is high on their list.”
Liverpool must decide who they want between their sticks this season
If you asked any Liverpool fan, most of them would say that they want Alisson as their starting ‘keeper.
Although the Brazilian has been rather injury prone this term, there’s no denying that he’s still one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Liverpool may see Mamardashvili as their successor to the 33-year-old but, with the number of games he’s been given this term, he’s failed to impress and has left a lot to be desired.
Granted, selling the Georgian would probably be a step too far as he’s only 25 years old but, if the Reds want him to improve and get better, he needs regular game time each week and a loan deal could help him achieve that.
Despite Juventus’ interest in Alisson being one of the main stories of the summer so far, the Old Lady and Fenerbahce have both been mentioned as potential destinations for Mamardashvili.
And, if he wants regular game time, it doesn’t really feel like there’s a better way for him to do that than by going on loan for a season and coming back upon the expiry of the Brazilian’s current deal.
Here’s hoping that the Reds come to their senses and actually choose to move Mamardashvili on rather than Alisson, otherwise, they could end up in a whole world of trouble.
