The New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly been waiting for June 1 to finalize a trade for A.J. Brown, but there is no guarantee that a trade will go down on Monday.
While there seems to be a belief that the terms of a deal are already agreed upon, that is not the case. In fact, the two sides have not spoken in weeks, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.
“The two sides, to my knowledge, as of this weekend, have not spoken in weeks,” Schefter said on 97.5 The Fanatic on Monday. “Weeks, truly. At some point today, I’d imagine this morning, Eliot Wolf, Howie Roseman, the front offices and coaching staff in New England and the front offices and coaching staffs in Philadelphia will come into their offices and there will be a phone call that’s made. Whether that’s at nine, ten or noon, but there’s an understanding that they would be getting back together today, reconvening and reopening the conversations that were along the way weeks ago.”
For fans hoping that Brown is traded on Monday, this is not good news. This means that the two sides will have to pick up conversations and actually agree to a trade. This opens the door for something to go awry.
However, there does seem to be a strong belief that the two sides will work something out. They have reportedly already had conversations around Brown this offseason, but knew that nothing was possible until June 1.
The fact that they have to resume conversations does, however, mean that there is a chance it takes a couple of days to actually make a trade official. It’s not like they have a trade in place and were simply waiting for the calendar to flip to June.
