CAMBRIDGE − OHSAA regional track and field meets were hosted at various high schools across the region this past week, which marks the final stop before the state meet.
The addition of a fourth and fifth division to the rotation changed the qualifying format, with the top five finishers in each event at three regionals earning state bids, along with three statewide wild card spots.
The newly named Jesse Owens State Track and Field Championships will be Thursday-Sunday, June 4-7 at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
Here is a capsule look at each local state qualifier:
Division III
Cambridge Bobcats
- Paisley Williams (Fr.) ∣ Girls Pole Vault: One of the most electrifying young talents in Eastern District. Despite being just a freshman, she has consistently cleared height that rival the upperclassmen elite all spring.
- Audrina Gibson (Sr.) ∣ Girls 100 Meter Dash: The veteran anchor of the Bobcats’ sprint unit finishes her high school career exactly where she belongs − on the biggest stage in Columbus. Known for an explosive block start.
- Jaylee Theodosopoulos (Fr.) ∣ Girls 100 Meter Dash: A lightning-fast freshman who has spent her debut high school season turning heads across the Eastern District. Stepping right onto the varsity stage and punching a ticket to Columbus in the premier sprint event proves she is a foundation piece for the future for the Bobcats.
- Bailey Anderson (Jr.) ∣ Girls Pole Discus: The junior leader of the Cambridge throwing corps, Anderson has put on a clinic in consistency all spring. She found her groove in the regional circle to lock up her spot at Jesse Owns Stadium.
John Glenn Muskies
- Ashlynn Kuklica (Jr.) ∣ Girls 1600-meter, 800-meter & 3200-meter: The definition of an elite workhorse. Pulling off a grueling track triple (800/1600/3200) out of regionals is a legendary feat that requires tactical discipline and stamina. A seasoned veteran at Jesse Owns Stadium, she placed seventh in the 1600-meter (5:09.34) and 9th in the 3200-meter (11:18.22).
- Ethan Zell (Sr.) ∣ Boys 800-Meter Run: A savvy senior middle-distance runner who timed his postseason peak beautifully, relying on a devastating final 200-meter kick to secure his ticket.
- Landon Cornelius (Jr.) ∣ Boys Discus: The technical anchor of the Muskies’ field events, Cornelius found his rhythm in the regional rings with big-time throws under intense pressure.
Meadowbrook Colts
- Vincent Campbell (Fr.) ∣ Boys 1600-meter & 3200-meter: A true freshman who completely reshaped the local distance landscape this spring. His school-record 4:22.57 in the 1600-meter proved he belongs in the conversation with Ohio’s elite underclassmen.
- Sophie May (Soph.) ∣ Girls Shot Put: A rising star in the throwing circles who showed remarkable composure for a sophomore, unleashing a high-pressure throw at regionals to secure his spot in Columbus.
- Jamarcus Berger (Jr.) ∣ Boys Long Jump: Possessing pure explosive athleticism, Berger found his stride on the regional runway, converting his vertical bounce into a massive state-bound horizontal distance.
Division IV
Shenandoah Zeps
- Braxton Barnett (Sr.) ∣ Boys 110-Meter hurdles, 300-Meter Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump: A multi-event superstar putting together one of the most dominant individual seasons in local track history. Sweeping all four of his regional events as a champion makes him heavy favorite to shine at the state meet. A decorated state medalist from last year, where he finished third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.61) and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (38.32).
- Ida Estadt (Jr.) ∣ Girls 1600-Meter Run & 3200-Meter Run: The engine behind the Zeps’ historic distance success. She powered through a grueling regional meet to claim dual-runner up spots in the state’s toughest long-distance events. Part of a dominant distance team last season, she returns to Columbus looking for a spot on the podium.
- Logan Gabel (Sr.) ∣ Boys 400 Meter Dash: A senior leader who broke through the elusive 50-second barrier at regionals to secure a clean, top-three auto-qualification. Peaking at perfect time for his senior finale.
- Alyssa Crum (Jr.) ∣ Girls 800-Meter Run: A tactical middle-distance specialist known for her closing speed. She executed a perfect race strategy at regionals to lock down a third-place finish to advance to Columbus.
Division IV
Caldwell
- Camy Crock (Jr.) ∣ Girls Pole Vault & Discus: A dominant dual-threat power thrower who controlled the rings at regionals, earning a runner-up finish in the discus and a clutch fourth-place finish in shot put. Competed at the regional level last year, enters her first state championship looking to turn her double event qualifying momentum into hardware.
- Boys 4X200-Meter Relay (Talon Bettinger, Garnar Gaydos, Aiden Danford, Alex Sheanshang): A tight-knit sprint quad combination that relies on nearly flawless baton exchanges and top-end speed, fighting through a stacked regional field to take third place to punch their ticket.
The 2026 Jesse Owens State Track and Field Championships get under way on Friday, June 5, at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on The Ohio State University campus. The running semifinals get underway at 10 a.m. on Friday morning. The finals will be run on Saturday evening starting at 5:45 p.m. The girls’ discus and pole vault will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
