The Los Angeles Angels have plenty of players who need to step up, but chief among them is Jorge Soler according to MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger.
The slugger got off to a blistering start to 2026, posting a .850 OPS through April 14, when he homered against the New York Yankees. He served a suspension afterwards following a brawl against the Atlanta Braves, though, and hasn’t performed up to standard since.
Through the end of May, Soler’s OPS has crept into the .600s and he hit just two home runs in more than 100 at-bats last month.
“Soler got off to a strong start to the season but had a rough month at the plate in May and the Angels need him to get going to bring some much-needed power to the lineup,” Bollinger wrote. “Soler, 34, is going to be a free agent after the season and could become a trade chip if he turns it around offensively. He’s currently nursing a groin injury but is playing through it and said it doesn’t affect him at the plate.”
When Did Soler Join the Angels and How Has He Fared?
Soler joined the Angels in a trade on the first day of the offseason in 2024, and had a similarly hot start to the 2025 season. He had an OPS higher than .850 midway through April, but couldn’t maintain it as he struggled with slumps and injury.
He played through July 23rd last season before taking to the injured list for the remainder of the campaign. Through his 82 games last season, Soler hit 12 homers and drove in 34 runs with a .680 OPS. His mark of .683 this season is slightly better, but the Halos would obviously like to see more from the former World Series MVP.
The Angels’ next series comes against the Colorado Rockies, and they’ll look to take advantage of a matchup against the team with the worst record in MLB to generate some momentum to carry them out of fifth place in the AL West.
Soler has historically fared well against the Rockies, batting .315 with 12 homers and 35 RBIs through 46 games.
Do you think Jorge Soler can turn things around and become a trade piece at the deadline?
