Dodger’s Family Targeted With Death Threats

The Los Angeles Dodgers won two of three games in the recent series against the Philadelphia Phillies, but that one loss prompted some unconscionable remarks from one social media user.

Reliever Tanner Scott picked up the loss on Saturday after he gave up three runs in the eighth inning, and his wife, Maddie, and newborn child were targeted with hateful comments by a pseudonymous user, @hawk.3112090.

“When did it stop being a game?” Maddie Scott wrote on an Instagram story this weekend. “I don’t speak out often. Ever actually. I promise you, you don’t know what it’s like unless you’re living it.”

Social media user threatened Tanner Scott’s family with physical violence

Scott revealed some of the comments she got, including awkwardly worded phrases that appeared to be intended to evade automated moderation provided by social media companies, such as “gun shot your family tonight.”

Christian Orozco of the California Post detailed that @hawk.3112090 also commented under a photo of the Scotts’ child saying “Hope this mutt d i e s soon.”

Other horrifying comments include:

  • “I hope you get home to your family lying in puddles of their own blood” towards Tanner Scott
  • “Hope it’s a still b i r t h,” posted under a photo of Maddie Scott announcing her pregnancy on Mother’s Day
  • “Hope that kid doesn’t see age 5”
  • “Hope this d i e s soon” on a photo of the couple’s child
  • “k i l l yourself” to Tanner Scott on multiple posts

How is Tanner Scott playing in 2026?

After a rough 2025, Scott has rebounded this season.

His 43.6% chase rate is at the very top of the major leagues, as is his walk rate of 3.3%.

He’s also in the top 10% of pitchers in whiff rate, strikeout rate and hard-hit percentage.

While he has a losing record on the year at 1-2, he also has a 2.19 ERA and has recorded five saves.

His WHIP of 0.689 is especially impressive, given he’s only finished a season with a WHIP under 1.000 once in his career, when he was a Miami Marlin in 2023.

That year, he finished with a WHIP of 0.987.
