The trade that most NFL fans expected today finally happened. The Philadelphia Eagles traded wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots.
The Eagles will get a first-round draft pick in 2028 and a fifth-round pick in next year’s draft.
Brown finally reunites with his former head coach, Mike Vrabel, with whom he played while he was with the Tennessee Titans.
Brown is a three-time Pro Bowl and three-time second-team All-Pro, has played in 105 regular-season games with 97 starts, and has 524 receptions for 8,029 yards and 56 touchdowns. In addition, he has played and started in 13 postseason games and has 44 receptions for 623 yards and 5 touchdowns. Brown has recorded 1,000 receiving yards in six of his seven NFL seasons.
Brown began to be unhappy about being with the Eagles toward the end of last season, and that’s when speculation began that he would be traded.
But according to numerous reports, the Eagles wanted two first-rounders for Brown; instead, they got a first-rounder in two years and a fifth-rounder next year.
But did the Eagles get a good deal for Brown? Former Eagles and Patriots player Asante Samuel said that the Patriots’ giving up a first-round draft pick for Brown was a “stretch.”
Time will only tell. For now, however, both parties involved seem to be happy with the trade.
