The New York Mets are one of the teams that have gone through the most struggles this season. While they’re not out of the postseason hunt just yet, things aren’t going well.

While pitching is a factor, the real issue for this Mets team is their brutal offensive woes. This team’s offense is one of the worst in baseball in most categories.

Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller identified the Mets’ hitters, other than Juan Soto, as the team’s biggest problem this season. When looking at the statistics, it makes sense why the Mets’ entire offense is the problem for the team this season.

Mets have a huge offensive issue other than Juan Soto

“New York Mets: Widespread offensive woes,” Miller writes. “… Case in point: From May 14-28, Soto amassed eight home runs and an OPS of 1.402. The rest of the Mets combined? Eleven home runs and an OPS of .601.”

The Mets’ offense has been one of the worst in baseball, and it wasn’t for Soto putting up MVP-caliber numbers, things would be a whole lot worse.

On the season, Soto is hitting .297 with a .970 OPS. Looking at all of the other Mets hitters, there’s only one player with an OPS above .700 who has had at least 80 at-bats this season, and it’s injured catcher Francisco Alvarez at a .710 OPS.

Eric Wagaman has a 1.250 OPS in four at-bats, and Jared Young has a .909 OPS in 36 at-bats this season. MJ Melendez has a .709 OPS in 78 at-bats, and that’s it for hitters with at least a .700 OPS regardless of sample size.

Francisco Lindor has a .669 OPS, while Carson Benge has a .663, Luis Robert has a .656, Mark Vientos has a .647, Brett Baty has a .634, Marcus Semien has a .630, and A.J. Ewing has a .615 OPS.

Austin Slater (.586), Bo Bichette (.574), Luis Torrens (.550), Hayden Senger (.539), Ronny Mauricio (.532), Jorge Polanco (.532), Tyrone Taylor (.530), Vidal Brujan (.347), and Nick Morabito (.083) all are sporting OPS marks below .600.

The offense in New York for the Mets has been a huge problem, and other than Soto, almost every other hitter on the team has been disappointing.

This team desperately needs to right the ship and produce better offensive numbers. Otherwise, it’s going to be a very long season for the Mets.
