Smithville High School announced today that Eric Nickles will be the new boys basketball head coach.
The announced was made on Smithville’s Green Local Schools – Wayne County, Ohio Facebook page.
“Smithville Athletics is excited to announce Eric Nickles as our head boys basketball coach. Coach Nickles brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and dedication to this role after serving as the head girls basketball coach for the past six years. Please join us in congratulating Coach Nickles. We look forward to the exciting future ahead for Smithville Basketball,” said in the post.
Smithville won’t be new to Nickles, as he was the Smithville girls basketball head coach the past six seasons (2020-2026) where he compiled a 100-48 record, won two district titles (2025, 2026), two Wayne County Athletic League (WCAL) titles (2023, 2025), was a regional finalist twice (2025, 2026) and produced two 20-win seasons.
Former Smithville boys basketball head coach Corey Kaufman left Smithville to take the boys basketball head coaching position at Massillon Perry last month.
