Former Missouri baseball coach Steve Bieser hired at Grand Canyon

Former Missouri baseball coach Steve Bieser is on the move.

After leading Jacksonville State to a program-record 48 wins and an NCAA Regional berth this past season, Bieser was officially announced as the next head coach at Grand Canyon on Tuesday.

Bieser was Mizzou’s head coach from 2017-23. The Tigers did not make an NCAA Regional while he was at the helm, and he was fired by former athletic director Desireé Reed-Francois in May 2023 with a 188-155-1 record in Columbia.

The former Missouri coach took over Jacksonville State in 2024. The Gamecocks won the Conference USA regular-season and tournament titles this past season and qualified for the Hattiesburg Regional, where Bieser’s team won two games but ultimately was eliminated by Little Rock.

That marked Jax State’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019. The Gamecocks went 48-15 this past season.

Mizzou replaced Bieser with current head coach Kerrick Jackson, who is expected to return to Mizzou for his fourth season at the helm in 2027. The Tigers are 63-103 over three years under Jackson. It would have cost Missouri in the region of $1.1 million to part ways with the coach this offseason.

Mizzou has not been to an NCAA Regional since 2012. The Tigers went 24-31 this past season.

Grand Canyon, which now competes in the Mountain West Conference, went 21-30 this past season and fired head coach Gregg Wallis in March. The Antelopes made three NCAA Tournament appearances between 2021-24.
