This NFL offseason has been a whirlwind for Tennessee Titans‘ starting running back Tony Pollard. He has been a steady workhorse for the team since signing with them during the 2024 offseason, but intrigue around now-Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love placed a cloud over his future with the team.
Love was a fan favorite to be drafted by the Titans with the fourth overall pick of the draft to take over the RB position and become the go-to playmaker for the offense. However, the Cardinals picked Love ahead of the Titans at number three, leading to wide receiver Carnell Tate being selected at number four.
Despite the close call of Pollard facing another challenger for his starting role, he has remained steadfast in doing his best to maintain the production he has provided the franchise over the last two seasons.
Consistency is key for Pollard
Running back wasn’t a position regarded as a high need for the Titans entering this offseason, but the potential of drafting the best available offensive playmaker in Love was enticing. With Pollard and Tyjae Spears under contract for one more year, selecting their RB of the future became part of their decision-making process.
The fortunate reality of their situation is that Pollard was productive and is ready to continue providing production for them regardless. He’s one of only two RBs in the NFL to rush for 1,000+ yards in four consecutive seasons (former Titan Derrick Henry is the other), and has played in at least 15 games every year since entering the NFL in 2019.
He has been the model of consistency throughout his career with both the Dallas Cowboys and the Tennessee Titans. Entering the final year of his three-year, $21.75 million contract, Pollard is approaching his preparation with the same mentality that has made him a success in his NFL career to date.
