It hasn’t taken Colt Emerson long at all to look right at home in Major League Baseball.

The Seattle Mariners had decided to keep the top-tier infield prospect off the Opening Day roster, and they gave him a bit more than a month at Triple-A Tacoma to tune up for his eventual MLB promotion.

Since arriving, Emerson has been fantastic.

He capped off the Mariners’ win over the Mets on Tuesday night with this sweet catch in foul territory, just the latest example of Emerson making good things happen:

As the post notes, the Mariners have won eight games in a row. It certainly hasn’t hurt to have Emerson up and contributing.

Emerson has now played in 15 games for the Mariners. He’s hitting .271 with a .352 on-base percentage, a .583 slugging and a .935 OPS.

His work at the plate includes four doubles, a triple, three home runs and eight RBI.

Emerson has struck out 15 times in 54 plate appearances compared to five walks, which will be one ratio to keep an eye on as his career goes forward. He has yet to attempt a stolen base.

The Mariners know they can play Emerson at both shortstop and third base, and that gives them some flexibility to make the most out of their lineup on any given day.

Emerson won’t turn 21 until September, so he’s got a potentially long and special big league career in front of him.

So far, he’s off to quite the strong start.
