Panthers unlikely to get much for their top 2026 trade candidate, says analyst

If the Carolina Panthers decide to trade one of their high-profile players this year, the likeliest candidate is wide receiver Xavier Legette. Entering his third year in the NFL, Legette is easily the most disappointing player on Carolina’s roster—consistently falling short of expectations since being drafted in the first round in 2024.

General manager Dan Morgan still seems to believe that Legette can turn things around, even after throwing new third-round pick Chris Brazzell II into the mix. But the jury remains out—and Legette has been named, by Moe Moton over at Bleacher Report, as the player that the Panthers should trade.

Moton writes:

Legette is unlikely to see significant growth behind [Tetairoa] McMillan. The Panthers may be able to find a trade partner for Legette because of the wideout’s draft pedigree, though the compensation won’t be much because the wideout has fallen short of expectations, hauling in 84 receptions for 860 yards and seven touchdowns.

Carolina might be lucky to get a decent Day 3 pick for Legette at this point. Then again, they did somehow manage to squeeze a fourth-round pick out of the Dallas Cowboys for Jonathan Mingo in 2024—and he showed a lot less than Legette has.

For now, the best the Panthers could probably do is wait and see if 2026 brings about a spark for the struggling wideout.
