Jim Furyk’s TV profile keeps expanding.
The Jacksonville resident and 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup captain, who has worked on Golf Channel coverage of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship and the Masters, will branch out to the USA Network for its early round coverage of the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills next week.
Golfweek first reported the news. Furyk will work on June 18, beginning at 6 a.m. on USA’s early coverage, then check back in later that afternoon, and on weekend coverage. Furyk also will be part of USA’s British Open coverage July 16-19 at Royal Birkdale.
In between, Furyk will work for Golf Channel at the Travelers Championship June 25-28 at TPC River Highlands, where he was the first player in PGA Tour history to shoot 58, when he won in 2016.
PGA Tour joins anti-doping group
The PGA Tour has become the newest member of the Board of Governors of the Partnership for Clean Competition (PCC), an anti-doping research collaborative.
It marks the first expansion of the PCC since 2008. The Tour joins Major League Baseball, the NFL, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committees and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to help preserve worldwide sports integrity.
“Through consistent dedication to ensuring fair competition among their athletes and tournaments, and the unwavering support they have provided to the PCC, the PGA Tour stands as a model to all other sports organizations,” said Jon Coyles, Chair of the PCC Board and MLB’s Senior Vice President of Drug, Health and Safety Programs, said in a statement. “The priority they place on the furtherance of the PCC’s crucial work in anti-doping affirms the TOUR’s commitment to the health and safety of their players and their fans.”
“Having a seat on PCC Board of Governors is a natural progression extending from the Tour’s longstanding relationship with the PCC and like-minded sports organizations that are committed to clean sport,” said Andy Levinson, the Tour’s Senior Vice President of Tournament Administration in another statement.
Detroit losing PGA Tour event
The Rocket Classic, a summer staple on the PGA Tour since 2019, will be played for the final time July 30-Aug. 2, according to a report in the Detroit News.
Rocket Companies and the PGA Tour have confirmed the report. Rocket declined to exercise its option for 2027 and the event will end after the company spent more than $150 million as a Tour sponsor, including five years in the Washington D.C. Area.
“After nearly 13 years as a PGA Tour title sponsor, including eight years in Detroit, 2026 will mark the final Rocket Classic,” Mark Hollis, Rocket tournament director and a longtime Gilbert right-hand man, said in a statement to The News.
“We are incredibly proud of what this tournament has meant to the city, from creating unforgettable moments for fans to raising more than $10 million for local organizations,” Holllis continued. “When we launched the Rocket Classic, our mission was to shine a national spotlight on Detroit. That mission has been accomplished. Our city is celebrated as the model for resilience, innovation and community-driven progress.”
“We remain interested in the Detroit market,” the PGA Tour said in a statement to The News, “and will explore options for a new sponsor.”
