Arsenal in for Premier League captain with World Cup star pushing to join

Arsenal are looking to pursue a deal to sign Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes, talkSPORT understands.

It is believed that the 28-year-old is pushing to join the Premier League champions in what would be a major coup for Mikel Arteta.

talkSPORT understands that Arsenal are yet to approach the Magpies over a move to bring the Brazil midfielder to the Emirates Stadium.

Though the Gunners have held talks with Guimaraes’ representatives.

Newcastle are now braced to receive an approach from Arsenal, who are bidding to successfully defend their Premier League title for the first time on their fourth attempt.

It was only in March how talkSPORT told you that Newcastle do not wish to part ways with their prize asset this summer.

But Arsenal are known to be long-term admirers of the player, having been linked with him before he moved to St James’ Park in January 2022.

Guuimares, who has recently been tipped as the perfect replacement for Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea, still has two years left to run on his contract in Tyneside.

Samba star

The ex-Lyon midfielder is currently in North America on World Cup duty for the Selecao.

And he has been a standout player under Carlo Ancelotti – chipping in with three assists to help Brazil top Group C.

Despite a disappointing 2025/26 season for Newcastle which saw them finish in 12th spot, Guimaraes proved to be a bright spark.

He chipped in with nine Premier League goals – his highest tally in a single campaign in England to date.

And he also provided seven assists in 41 games across all competitions for the Toon outfit.

Newcastle firesale?

Should Guimaraes depart Newcastle, he would become the latest high-profile star to leave this window.

Veteran defender Kieran Trippier, who joined in same window as Guimaraes, has joined Wolves on a free transfer after being released.

Meanwhile, England international Anthony Gordon has linked up with Barcelona in a £70million transfer.

Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali is another that is facing an uncertain future.

Tottenham saw an opening offer in the region of £75m-£80m to bring the AC Milan cult hero to north London rejected by Newcastle.

Who else could Arsenal sign this window?

It’s expected to be a busy window for Arsenal, with the club announcing Piero Hincapie as their first summer signing – turning his temporary loan stay from Bayer Leverkusen into a permanent switch for £34.5m.

And Arsenal have identified Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers as their top target, with the club expected to formalise their interest in the near future.

Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola is also on the club’s radar, along with Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who has starred at the World Cup with Morocco so far.

Greece winger Christos Tzolis has also been linked in a potential £34.5m deal having dazzled at Club Brugge in the last two years, with the club currently winning the race to land Leicester starlet Jeremie Monga.

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is also on Arsenal’s shortlist after he helped the Cherries secure European football for the first time in their history.
