Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has informed the club of his desire to leave Old Trafford on loan before the transfer window closes, aiming for regular first-team football.
The 20-year-old, a product of United’s academy, emphasized that he has no intention of severing ties with his boyhood club. However, Mainoo feels his current situation under Ruben Amorim limits his opportunities to develop his football career.
Mainoo was an unused substitute in United’s first two Premier League games this season, missing the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal and 1-1 draw with Fulham. He started in the Carabao Cup second-round defeat against Grimsby Town.
Despite interest from clubs like Bayern Munich, no formal move has been made, and United are reportedly reluctant to approve a loan, valuing Mainoo as a homegrown player.
The midfielder’s current contract runs until 2027, with an option for an extra year, including performance-based pay rises. Mainoo made his Premier League debut in November 2023 and played regularly under former manager Erik ten Hag, including starting 24 of the final 26 league matches in the 2023-24 season.
He also earned his maiden senior England call-up in March 2024, making his debut against Brazil at Wembley and playing in the 2024 European Championship.
With the World Cup next summer on the horizon, Mainoo is keen to secure consistent game time to maintain his form and international prospects.
