Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has hailed Trevoh Chalobah, crediting the defender as a vital reason for the club’s achievements last season, including their FIFA Club World Cup victory.

Following Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League win over Fulham on Saturday — which secured the Blues’ second clean sheet of the season — Maresca praised Chalobah’s consistent performances since rejoining the squad in January.

“Since he came back in January he’s doing very well,” Maresca told reporters.

“The reason why we achieved what we achieved last season is also because of Trev. In the final against PSG in the Club World Cup he was top. He’s doing very well and we are happy with him.”

Maresca also admitted his frustration with Chelsea’s poor first-half display against Fulham, explaining that he rushed into the dressing room at half-time after Joao Pedro’s goal to make tactical changes.

With Chalobah’s leadership in defence, Chelsea look set to maintain their strong performances under Maresca in both domestic and international competitions.
