Thomas Tuchel is set to name an England team with three changes for their highly anticipated World Cup round-of-16 showdown with co-hosts Mexico on Monday.

Tuchel’s side are hoping to exercise the ghosts of tournaments’ past when they face the co-hosts at Mexico City Stadium, the scene of their 1986 quarter-final exit.

The German’s line-up has been revealed ahead of the 1am UK time showdown against El Tri with the Three Lions expected to make three personnel changes.

Jarell Quansah is set to start again at right-back after the Bayer Leverkusen defender was forced to miss the round-of-32 win over DR Congo through injury.

Tottenham‘s Djed Spence covered Quansah’s absence while midfielder Declan Rice deputised in the role during the closing stages at Atlanta Stadium.

Quansah, a central defender by trade, took on the mantle of England’s right-back position after Reece James picked up a hamstring injury in the draw with Ghana.

The 23-year-old himself had to be withdrawn against Panama with an ankle problem but has recovered in time to earn a starting berth in his country’s backline again.

Tuchel will also hand Anthony Gordon a return to the starting XI after overlooking the new Barcelona winger for successive matches against Panama and DR Congo.

Although he featured as a substitute in the latter, Gordon found himself dislodged from the left wing role as Marcus Rashford was deployed in the back-to-back games.

The former Newcastle and Everton man made up for his lost time by teeing up Harry Kane for both goals in the comeback over DR Congo that sealed a last-16 spot.

Bukayo Saka is also set to earn a recall to the XI in place of Arsenal teammate Noni Madueke as Tuchel favours a more dynamic approach for the 6pm local time clash.

England are aiming end Mexico’s 10-game unbeaten World Cup run at Mexico City Stadium.
