Bruno Fernandes involved in betting scam

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes enjoyed the finest season of his career at Old Trafford, but the summer has brought a very different set of headlines.

After leading the club to Champions League qualification and collecting both the Premier League Player of the Year and Manchester United Player of the Year awards, Fernandes’ World Cup campaign ended in disappointment following Portugal’s Round of 16 exit to Spain.

The midfielder struggled to reach his usual standards during the tournament and is now preparing to return to Carrington ahead of pre-season.

However, events away from the pitch have now placed the United skipper back in the spotlight.

Bruno Fernandes has reportedly become the victim of an elaborate fraud scheme involving fake online casinos that illegally used his identity without permission.

According to The Guardian, Bruno Fernandes and England midfielder Jude Bellingham have both had their identities exploited by illegal gambling operators in an attempt to deceive customers.

The report claims the online casinos Nightwin and QH88 falsely presented the pair as official ambassadors by producing fake news stories, manipulated photographs and AI-generated videos.

In Fernandes’ case, the deception reportedly went even further.

A Vietnamese sportsbook and casino platform, QH88, allegedly created an entire promotional campaign around the Manchester United captain, including what appeared to be a highly convincing AI-generated deepfake video showing Fernandes signing an ambassadorial agreement with company representatives inside Old Trafford.

The fabricated content was reportedly designed to convince customers that the Portugal international had officially endorsed the brand.

It is not the first time Fernandes has found himself targeted away from the football pitch.

Earlier this year, the United captain’s X account was hacked before eventually being recovered.

The latest incident comes after an outstanding club campaign in which Fernandes broke the Premier League assist record while producing the best season of his Manchester United career.

His performances helped Michael Carrick guide the Red Devils back into the Champions League, earning Bruno Fernandes individual recognition as both the Premier League’s Player of the Year and Manchester United’s Player of the Year.

Although his club season ended on a high, the World Cup proved far more frustrating.

Portugal were eliminated by Spain in the Round of 16, with Fernandes unable to produce the same level of influence that had made him one of Europe’s standout performers throughout the domestic campaign.

As he prepares to return for Manchester United’s pre-season, Fernandes will now hope to put both a disappointing international tournament and this extraordinary off-field incident firmly behind him.
