Manchester United’s academy continues to produce players capable of making the step into senior football, even if that journey eventually takes them away from Old Trafford.
Not every youngster breaks into United’s first team, but many go on to build promising careers elsewhere after developing within the club’s renowned youth system.
Another graduate has now reached an important milestone after leaving Manchester last year.
It marks another reminder of the quality that continues to emerge from Carrington.
Former Manchester United academy graduate makes debut for Norwich City
Former Manchester United academy goalkeeper Zach Baumann has made his first-team debut for Norwich City.
The Ukrainian youth international featured as the Canaries played out a 0-0 draw against Colchester United in a pre-season friendly, marking his first senior appearance for the Championship side.
Zach Baumann spent more than a decade at Manchester United after joining the club’s academy in 2012 as a five-year-old.
During his time at Old Trafford, he progressed through every level of the academy and played an important role in one of the club’s most successful youth teams.
The midfielder helped Manchester United’s Under-18s win both the league title and the U18 Premier League Cup during the 2023/24 campaign before completing a permanent move to Norwich City on in September of 2025.
Since arriving at Carrow Road, Baumann has continued his development within Norwich’s academy setup.
He scored his first goal for the club’s Under-21 side against Sunderland in October last year, despite Norwich suffering a 3-2 defeat.
Now, less than a year after arriving in Norfolk, the youngster has been rewarded with his senior debut.
Norwich narrowly missed out on the Championship play-off places after finishing ninth in the 2025/26 season and will be hoping to mount another promotion challenge this year.
Zach Baumann’s first appearance for the Canaries represents another significant step in a career that began in Manchester United’s academy more than a decade ago.
