As top-level UEFA rivals and historic football nations sharing a border, France and Spain are familiar to the point of intimacy.
They have met in 38 senior men’s internationals, the equivalent of an entire Premier League season in which France have won 46 points and Spain 61, enough to have qualified for the Champions League last season.
France have won only four of the 13 matches between these teams since the turn of the century and lost the last two including the semi-final of the European Championship two years ago.
