Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai is set to sign a new contract in a big boost for the Reds.
The midfielder has agreed a deal in principle to extend his stay at Anfield, talkSPORT understands.
A standout season
Szoboszlai was one the shining lights in Liverpool‘s overall disappointing 2025/26 campaign.
The Hungary captain was named the Reds’ Player of the Season.
Szoboszlai scored a career best 13 goals in all competitions as Liverpool fell well short in their Premier League title defence but finished fifth to secure Champions League qualification for 2026/27.
And their No8 found the net in spectacular fashion on a regular basis.
He struck four times from free-kicks, the most in the top flight, with his stunning effort against Arsenal in August voted Liverpool’s Goal of the Season.
Szoboszlai also won the 2025 Hungarian Golden Ball as his nation’s best player for the third year running.
A £60m signing from RB Leipzig in 2023, the 25-year-old has two years left to run on his current deal on Merseyside.
Szoboszlai previously played a key role as Liverpool won their second Premier League title in 2024/25 under Arne Slot.
But he’ll now be playing under a new manager, with ex-Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola succeeding the sacked Slot in the Anfield dugout.
Reds hoping for better in 2026/27
Liverpool begin the new Premier League campaign away to Newcastle on August 23.
Their first home fixture follows six days later against Nottingham Forest.
The Reds have made two first-team signings so far as they look to bounce back in 2026/27.
France U21 centre-back Jeremy Jacquet has joined from Rennes having agreed a deal earlier this year, with Spain forward Victor Munoz arriving from Osasuna.
And Iraola has stressed they won’t be the only arrivals this summer.
Speaking for the first time since his appointment, the Spaniard said: “Obviously, we have signed two players already, but we need more players. We know this. The club is working on this.”
“Me, as a coach, selfishly, we want the players here from day one to train from pre-season. But we know football doesn’t work like this. The club is working hard to get those signings.”
