Arsenal have revived their pursuit of Nico Williams after suffering setbacks in their attempts to land two other major transfer targets, according to reports.
The Gunners have a longstanding interest in the , the Athletic Club winger – who turned 24 on July 12 – has re-emerged as a serious target for Arsenal, with manager Mikel Arteta keen to strengthen the left side of his attack.
The Gunners have made fresh contract with the La Liga outfit, with sporting director Andrea Berta holding discussions to assess whether a deal is possible.
A key factor that could work in Arsenal’s favour appears to be the release clause in Williams’ Athletic Club contract, which he signed last summer and runs until 2035.
TEAMtalk states that the clause is worth around £77million, which is well within the Gunners’ reach and £40m less than Chelsea will pay for England international Rogers.
The report also claims that Spanish sources have indicated that Williams is attracted by a move to the Premier League and sees Arsenal as an ‘attractive destination’.
Arteta is keen to strengthen after guiding Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season.
The Gunners have lost one left winger in Leandro Trossard, who has joined Besiktas, although they are set to sign Greece international Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge in his place.
However, the capture of Euro 2024 and now World Cup winner Williams would be a huge statement of intent from the Premier League champions.
