Leeds United vs Wrexham: Preview
Leeds United boss Daniel Farke achieved what he set out to do in the club’s first season back in the Premier League, as a late run of form saw the Whites finish 14th.
However, Leeds know as well as anyone that if staying up in your first campaign is tough, then establishing yourselves in the top flight is a different challenge entirely. After finishing ninth in 2020/21 having won promotion 12 months earlier, gravity took hold as the Elland Road outfit survived by the skin of their teeth the following season before succumbing to the drop in 2022/23.
Farke has already taken steps to ensure there is no repeat this time around. His 30-man squad for the US tour includes summer signings Harry Wilson and Bosnia and Herzegovina defender Tarik Muharemovic, whose biggest impact at World Cup 2026 was being on the receiving end of the tackle that saw USA striker Folarin Balogun sent off – only for the resulting suspension to be lifted via an intervention from President Trump.
Muharemovic will hope for less controversy on his latest trip Stateside, with games against Sunderland in New Jersey and Liverpool in Chicago to follow for Leeds.

Wrexham also face Liverpool and Sunderland in the other two games of their tour – matches that they hope will be league fixtures before too long.
The Red Dragons’ meteoric rise from the National League put them on the cusp of promotion to the Premier League last term, when they missed out on the play-offs on the final day. There will be two extra teams in the play-offs from 2026/27, meaning that eighth place will be enough to reach the end-of-season shoot-out, so the North Wales club will surely be among the contenders again.
Wrexham have been transformed by the money and prestige of Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, but they are yet to make a signing this summer. They still boast considerable firepower, though, and Josh Windass is set to return from injury against Leeds after fellow striker Sam Smith scored the only goal against Manchester United.
The success of hit series Welcome to Wrexham means the Red Dragons will attract interest wherever they go during their US tour – especially if Reynolds or McElhenney make an appearance.
