Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe has refused to support Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal for the Ballon d’Or 2025 Mbappe. While he praised Yamal’s talent, Mbappe said he cannot back a player from a rival club in LaLiga.
In an interview with BILD, Mbappe acknowledged Yamal’s impressive performances last season. However, he made it clear that club loyalty prevents him from endorsing Yamal for football’s most prestigious individual award.
Both Mbappe and Yamal are among the 30 players nominated for the Ballon d’Or 2025 Mbappe. When asked about Yamal’s chances, Mbappe told Le Parisien:
“Lamine Yamal? He is a very good player, but he is from Barcelona. I can’t say anything.”
Yamal, just 19, had a breakthrough season with Barcelona. He helped the team reach the Champions League semi-finals and contributed significantly to their LaLiga and Copa del Rey victories. His speed, dribbling, and vision have made him one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.
Mbappe, 26, has been a standout performer for Real Madrid since joining from Paris Saint-Germain. Known for his pace, goal-scoring ability, and performances in big matches, he remains one of the top contenders for the Ballon d’Or this year.
The Ballon d’Or is awarded annually to the world’s best football player. This year’s shortlist features stars from Europe’s top leagues. Mbappe’s comments show how club rivalries can influence opinions, even when it comes to individual awards.
Fans will be watching closely to see if Yamal can make a mark and earn recognition despite lacking support from rivals like Mbappe. His rise shows the new generation of talent emerging in European football.
